If you enjoy cooking or baking with coconut milk (not to be confused with coconut juice), you might want to try making your own instead of stocking up on the canned stuff! It’s incredibly easy to do at home – all you need is a blender or food processor and a fine strainer – and it tastes much better and fresher than store bought milk too! Try it for yourself one of these days. You won’t regret it!
Homemade Coconut Milk
1 cup – grated coconut or coconut pieces
2 cups – water, warm
a blender or food processor
a fine straineror cheesecloth
- Prepare your coconut. If you’re using a fresh coconut, reserve the coconut juice and scoop out the coconut flesh from the shell. (You can use grated or pre-cut coconut). Pour your coconut into a blender or processor and blend it with the warm water.
- Transfer your coconut mixture into a strainer placed over a large bowl. Press the pulp with a spoon until the milk is drained, and voila! Homemade coconut milk that you can use anywhere you would use regular coconut milk.
